In accordance with Akali Nihang tradition, every goat that is killed by 'Chatka' is believed to be reborn as a 'Bhujangi'.

Hence, in the martial mentality of Akali Nihang Singhs, the more the 'Chatka' of goats, the more is there the increase in number of Khalsa warriors.

The irony is that 'Chatka' is considered to be a positively heinous crime according to modern puritanical vegetarian Sikhs and Gatka players, yet, to the traditional Khalsa warrior, the Akali Nihang, the same act is a very essential and pious.

From the practical point of view, not only is goat's blood used to anoint weapons and thus satiate their 'Bir Ras' in times of peace, the blood can also be drunk raw (known as 'Surkh'), or cooked with the meat to strengthen the warrior for battle.

Even the goat's skin was, traditionally utilized by Sikh warriors to make their battle drums, scabbards for weapons, water-proof leather covers for sacred scriptures, shoes, or water-carrying leather bags known as 'Mashk'.
