The classical knowledge of how to read and interpret Sikh scriptures according to Sikh tradition, known as 'Santhia' also declined.

The continuously joined traditional writing style of Sikh scriptures known as 'Lariwaar' (unbroken script), was done away with, and replaced with the introduction of printing press during British Raj.
