The weapons normally utilised are the Gatka stick and 'Fari' or a light bamboo staff.

If real swords are used for sparring, they have no sharp edges. In some cases, the swords have a 'Kara' welded to the hilt (via a small chain) to ensure if the sword slips out of the hand, it does not land into the viewing crowd. However, it is not uncommon to hear of casualties/fatalities occuring at Gatka displays - this usually involves innocent spectators rather than the 'Gatkabaj'.

In this type of ritualistic Gatka emphasis is placed upon on putting up a good tumultuous show. As a reminder, examining the video clip one can see how this is very effective - the volume has been muted due to the poor sound on the original recording.

With every clash of sword-on-sword, or sword-on-shield, or stick-on-stick, the aim is to gain the applause of the watching audience, and add to the spirit and cheer of the religious and cultural festivals. The aggressive 'Jangi Boleh', the killing spirit ('Chatka'), the somber thoughtful and deliberate techniques born of it ('Pentra'), are all non-existant in this watered down Gatka.

This type of 'Rasmi Gatka' was given various names in the Akali Nihang circles who appreciated the original TRUE military Hindu Sikh fighting arts of 'Chatka':

    1) 'Shoshabaji'
    2) 'Shoobaji'
    3) 'Kacha Gatka'
    4) 'Sandeh Kot di Khel'
