The ancient respect for a 'Gurdev', of a 'Vidiya', have today largely disintegrated.

Another old 'Chatka Gatka' master, Nihang Baba Ram Singh also lamented to the fact that modern 'Gatkabaj' do not respect old masters:

'Nowadays no one acknowledges [the] 'Ustad'. He who whilst his Gurdev is alive after few days learning goes and sets himself up as Ustad and does not worship [fully respect and serve] his Ustad dose not even remember him does not salute Him [at beginning of class in 'Chatka Gatka' Atam Dev and all past mythological and historical Gurdevs are saluted and asked permission to start 'Akhara'] how can they [says Baba Ram Singh in great anger] learn Vidiya. Such a person [who is without Ustads] Vidiya curses. That is why today no one does service [of Ustad] so no one has the Vidiya [Chatka Gatka].'
(Nihang Baba Ram Singh, transcript of interview, 16th April 1998)

It has to be accepted the 'Gurdev' and 'Shagird' system in modern 'Jahir Gatka' has completely broken down, and egos now reign supreme. The vast majority of so-called 'Gatka Ustads' have just set themselves up without any consent or authority from anyone who may have an ounce of authority.

Whilst in England, Bhai Ranjit Singh, currently residing in Patiala, Punjab, was posed some questions by Sanatan Hindu Sikh Shastar Vidiya Gurdev, Nihang Niddar Singh:

'Q: How much of the 'Vidiya' is proper and how much fake?
A: At present 90 percent is fake, and 10 percent, no less than 10 percent in my thinking, and only 10 to 5 percent is proper. There are with the Guru's grace a few old Singhs who still have the Vidiya.
Q: So, at present, Vidiya of 'Chatka' is very rare?
A: Not much nearly extinct only a few have it, about 5-10 percent with the Guru's grace, but the rest are but shenanigans.'
(Baba Ranjit Singh, transcript of interview, 19 October 2001)

What Bhai Ranjit Singh states above is backed up by Sanatan Hindu Sikh Shastar Vidiya Gurdev Akali Nihang Baba Mohinder Singh.
