A thumb ring worn by Indian archers.

Before putting on ring archers put on a leather forefinger and thumb only covering glove Angulitar/Angulitran/Godhagulitran. This glove was made of the soft leather of the large Indian Iguana-like lizard 'Goh'. Once Angulitar and Angustan was put on then in order to pull the bowstring. The thumb from below string and forefinger from above wrapped themselves around bowstring and each other. This meant forefinger from top was wrapped above and around front part of folded thumbs knuckle and bowstring was trapped between the two. This type of grip allowed for a much more powerful pull on bowstring than pulling with just finger tips as is common in the West.
