In building the nucleus of the army, the Guru declared:

“We are to take up arms under Guru Hargobind. The 'Kal Yuga' prevails. After learning 'Shastran di Vidiya' (science of weapons) we are to wrest from the rulers their 'Mir di Miri' (political power). Through the love of the divine word, acquire the spiritual wisdom of the 'Pir di Piri' (divine masters). Always stay in attendance on the Sixth Master. If someone eats the salt of kings, he surrenders his body to them. Here you will not only find the art of living in society, you will also attain 'Jivanmukat' (state of liberation whilst alive)”
('Sikhan di Bhagat Mala', ed. Trilochan Singh Bedi, Pa. 126)

In time, the 'Akal Bunga' became the center of training and dispensing martial wisdom and would be the focus where all parliamentary matters were discussed
