The activities of the Sixth Guru, Akali Guru Hargobind Sahib, had not gone unnoticed.

For a time Akali Guru Hargobind was imprisoned in Gwalior, but the training of his warriors continued under watchful eye of Akali Baba Buddha.

As consequence of this the army of the Akal Takht was informally known as "Buddha Dal" - the army of Akali Baba Buddha.

The training regime of the Ranjit Akhara, though having its own distinct character incorporating new weapons of its times, was built upon the legacy of the Shiv Akhara. Here, the very same 'Khat Ang Yudhan', 'Sapt Ang Yudhan' and 'Sat Dev Ang Yudhan' styles were taught.

Even the designation 'Akal' was after all another designation of 'Shiva'. On Akali Guru Hargobind's sword was inscribed an image of Kalika standing over Shiv. The singing of the eulogies of the 'Shiv Shakti', the Brahm Kavach was part of the liturgy of Guru's Akali warriors. Many warriors had images of Kalika, Durga, etc embellished on their weapons.
