This 'Shastar Pooja' is done with the bloody martial traditions of 'Chatka' that are so repugnant to many modern Sikhs.

Modern mainstream Sikhism does not worship the Khalsa weapons of war in any way, but rather, insults them by rejecting the martial spirit of the Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa.

Early last century the 'Jathedar' of Sach Khand Hazur Sahib, Nanded, Maharashtra, wrote with regards to worshipping weapons at the Akal Takht:

'By the orders [Akali Nihang Singhs] that initiate Khalsa at the Takht, especially during Navrata (festival that praises the 9 incarnations of Durga), the weapons were worshipped along with reading of Chandi etc., and the war scriptures of the Tenth Master. With the completion of reading on the day of 'Vijay Dasmi' at the Golden temple Amritsar's Akal Takht, after all readings were done on the day of 'Dussera', from Bachitar Natak, Rama Avatar (Ramyana) was read and, as it reached the point of Raavan's death, surrounded by thousands of people in the area reserved for holding gatherings [in front of Akal takht] is, the tradition of infusing warrior spirit, spirit of rage and horror, was experienced by carrying out Chatka of goats. Seeing this fearful sight, the Singh Khalsa is full of joy and the weapons are anointed with the blood, and their [Singhs] limbs quiver with power. The ones who believe non-violence is highest Dharam, these superstitious beings who becoming cowards unable to watch or listen lacking courage, closing their eyes and covering their ears cannot find a escape route to run to. In the Sikh Panth we have permission [of Guru] to hunt animals, and Chatka of healthy animals goats etc. and eat meat as it is in line with the Hindu Kyshatriya tradition.'
('Siri Hazoor Maryada Parbodh', Baba Joginder Singh, Pa. 251-252)

Nihang tradition holds that without appropriate worship of weapons, one cannot master Sanatan Hindu Sikh Shastar Vidiya.

In practical terms without 'Chatka', or at least an acknowledgement of its martial context, one is not psychologically fully prepared for the bloody and vicious deeds of the battlefield.
