Traditionally, outside one's own Sanatan Hindu Sikh Shastar Vidiya Shiv Akhara, the competitiveness was/is much more aggressive.

All traditional Khalsa sparring is to be done with 'Chatka' weapons only. This results in the use of weapons that could kill with one single blow.

To win the competition the 'Chatkabaj' sought to win opponent through incapacitating another through various means such as:

    a) 'Robh' (psychological intimidation) through verbal banter (battle chants, insults, bravado, etc) and sheer physical presence

    b) Once a physical contest began with chosen weapons, no pure unarmed combat was done. This was to avoid desecration of long hair (signature of the warrior Khalsa).

The aim was to employ any weapon with unarmed techniques to incapacitate an opponent through cutting of tendons, muscles, breaking/dislocating joints, choking until unconscious or a complete knockout. Such contests were termed 'Hadh Torh'.
