A really insulting and shameless opponent engaging in combat may not only receive a serious injury, but may also have his face mutilated - such as having his nose cut off.

This method was a favorite as this is a common traditional Indian punishment given to shameless criminals such as pedophiles, rapists, murderers, etc. In addition, such characters may be stripped naked, their face blackened with donkey excrement, slapped with leather slippers, and generally humiliated in public.

The 'Chatka' of opponents in such 'Hadh Torh' contests is seldom resorted to, but has been known to happen. More common is the crippling of an opponent by cutting of the hand (or tendons) that wields the sword.

This latter punishment is only reserved for special cases - if say opponent has insulted Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa 'Dharam' or one's family honor.

The above type of Nihang contests may seem incredible to modern 'Jahir Gatka' who's fighting style is in comparison sterile and devoid of all bravado, life and general character. This is not surprising since modern Gatka competitions are purely lightweight sporting contests culminating in a hug between opponents.
