In contrast to the vicious and brutal nature of 'Hadh Torh' matches of Sanatan Hindu Sikh Shastar Vidiya, the Gatka world imposes rules.
The general rules of Gatka competitions (where anyone claiming to be 'Gatkabaj' can participate in) are given as follows:
1) Use of only Bamboo Gatka sticks of stipulated length and weight (the weight is usually no more than a few grams)
2) Strikes only to be done with the front half of Gatka stick only
3) No targeting of the groin, hands, face, head, back of neck or back (occasionally ankle strikes are also banned)
4) No use of 'Hooj'
5) No heavy or malicious hitting
6) The first person to get the designated number of hits in the designated time (usually about three minutes or so) wins
These rules vary depending on the particular group performing Gatka.
The above types of weak-kneed rules prove Gatka competitions have NO place in Indian martial history.
