Nidar Singh Nihang is the sole-surviving master of Shastar Vidiya, the highly advanced North Indian system of armed and unarmed combat. Though honed over millennia by countless warriors - not least the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh - it has teetered on the brink of extinction since the purges of the British Raj during the mid-19th century.

Nidar Singh's unique insight into this remarkable battlefield art began as a teenager in a sleepy Punjabi village. It was there that his mundane life was changed forever following a chance meeting with an enigmatic Akali Nihang warrior.

Fascinated by the old man's claim that he was the last in a lineage of Sikh warriors who had secretly guarded the Guru's art of war, Nidar Singh was drawn on a journey of discovery into a world that has now all but vanished.
